Atlantic Trailer Leasing Company History
1949 – John Giordano founds Industrial Auto Body and Trailer Co. on 28th Street in south Philadelphia. Industrial builds trailers from the ground up and offers trailer repairs.
1967 – A customer asks if he can rent a trailer while his is being repaired. Two months later, the company has its first three trailers available for rent. John Giordano’s oldest son, Frank, takes over the fledgling rental division. Frank is just 17 and enrolled as a freshman at Rutgers University in Camden, NJ.
1972 – Frank graduates from Rutgers with 800 trailers on rent. Over the next 15 years, Frank builds the company into a national entity, consisting of 22 branches and 10,000 trailers.
1987 – Opportunity knocks, and Frank sells all branches except for Vincentown, NJ, a 35-acre facility with a large repair shop and a 1200-trailer inventory.
1998 – The company is renamed Atlantic Trailer Leasing Corp.
2000 – Atlantic Trailer Leasing purchases its first group of ground-level storage containers.
2005 – Atlantic Trailer begins offering container modification services. Initial jobs call for installing roll-up doors and windows, and for converting containers into field offices, animal shelters, portable job shops, and more.
2011 – Atlantic launches a logistics division, providing semi-trailers and CDL drivers to customers looking to sub-contract their transportation departments or needing assistance with a project, such as moving from one warehouse to another.
2018 – Atlantic continues to grow, employing more than 65 people, operating a fleet of 25 tractors and straight trucks and six fully equipped service vans.
2024 – Atlantic celebrates its 75th year in the trailer business. Concurrently, the Giordano family announces that Atlantic will transition into an employee-owned company.
